Speedtest

There are a myriad of factors that can impact the speed you receive when retrieving your files from our services. The best thing you can do is try a speedtest before buying a Streambox and based on the speed decide if this would be a good match for you. Your transfer speeds from the server are determined not just by the plan you have with your ISP, but also by your peering to our server. Before your connection reaches our server, it has to pass through multiple other locations. If any of these locations are experiencing issues (maintenance, congestion, etc), it can affect your transfer speeds. It will typically be the case that the closer the server is to you geographically, the better speeds that you will achieve and the more stable your connection will be.

Please follow the instructions below to check the speeds:

  • Download testfile Netherlands (Evoswitch): Test IP : 94.75.223.121 Test Bin Files : 100MB
  • Download testfile Germany (Telehouse): Test IP : 37.58.58.140 Test Bin Files : 100MB
  • Download testfile United States (Power Loft): Test IP : 108.59.10.97 Test Bin Files : 100MB
Note the speed. This will test your connection speed to our Streambox servers. This is in no way 100% accurate but it should give you a sense of what to expect. This is necessary since Plex can't do multi-segmented downloading and will transfer your stream over one thread.
  • If the speed is bigger then 2.5MB/s you can most likely use Direct Streams without transcoding and watch any type of content, but this depends highly on the quality of the file. Some files can go up to peak bitrates of 8MB/s. Transcode to 20Mbit to be safe.
  • If the speed is around 1.5MB/s you should probably transcode to around 10Mbit.
  • If the speed is less then 1MB you will have to transcode to lower qualities 8Mbit and less.
